Mead Madness Cup 2019
– International home and professional mead competition

§1

Organiser of Mead Madness Cup 2019 home and professional mead competition (also known as “MMC 2019”) is Kings of Mead (also known as “The Organiser”). Competition is organised in cooperation with EMMA (European Mead Makers Association), MJP (Mead Judging Program), PTP (Poznan Beer Fair) and Jaros Apiary.

§2

This is a competition for meads crafted at home (HOME) and professional meads available to buy by public (PRO).

§3

There will be 4 main categories and several sub categories in MMC 2019 as per below list:

  • M1 – traditional mead
    • Dry M1A
    • Medium M1B
    • Sweet M1C
  • M2 – fruit meads
    • Berries M2C
    • Stone fruits M2D
    • Other fruit (melomel) including cyser and pyment M2E
  • M3 – metheglins
    • Fruit and spices M3A
    • Herbal, spiced and vegetable M3B
  • M4 – specialty meads
    • Braggot M4A
    • Experimental and others M4C
    • Session and mead under 9%abv alcohol M4S

§4

Entries are restricted to maximum number of 4 meads. No more than one mead in each category (not sub category).  Same mead can enter only one category. Mead maker is obliged to classify their mead in correct category (sub category). In the event where an obvious mistake has been made when classifying mead, Organisers are permitted to re-classify mead based on the information provided in entry form. In situation where information provided by mead maker are inaccurate or when mead has been entered into incorrect category (sub category), jury will not award any points (mead will be automatically disqualified). Jury will however describe the mead on the scoresheet and provide pointers and observations.

§5

If numbers of entries in one of the categories or sub categories will be too low, organisers are permitted to join categories (sub categories).

§6

Meads will be judged on MJP (Mead Judging Program) score sheets. Each mead will score certain number of points and this will establish the final position of mead in the contest. In case where two or more meads scores exactly the same number of points, jury will decide during additrional discussion which mead to award which place. Head of the jury has a casting vote in case of tie.

§7

Depending on number of entries and quality of entered meads medals will be awarded in each category and diplomas in each sub category. Maximum number of medals in each category is 3, and diplomas in each subcategory is also 3. Every mead maker will receive an original score sheets of their mead by post.

§8a

Only applicable for meads entered in HOME competition To enter mead to competition, mead maker needs to fill in an entry form available at www.meadmadnesscupkingsofmead.com or by clicking on the link . Competition for home meads is free to enter. Cut-off date for entering meads into competition is 15.10.2019. After that day the entries will not be registered.

§8b

Only applicable for meads entered in PRO competition. To enter mead to competition, mead maker needs to fill in an entry form available at www.meadmadnesscupkingsofmead.com or by clicking on the link and to pay an entry fee of 25 GBP per each mead. Cut-off date for entering meads into competition is 15.09.2019. After that day the entries will not be registered.

§9a

Only applicable for meads entered in HOME competition Home mead competition is free to enter, however Organiser has launched a crowd funding page. Please check the website (LINK) and make a donation if you wish. This is not mandatory.

§9b

Only applicable for meads entered in PRO competition A fee to enter mead into PRO competition is set to 25 GBP. This fee entitles to send one mead. In case of entering number of meads, fee need to be multiplied accordingly. Please transfer money to the account:

§10a

Only applicable for meads entered in HOME competition After successful registration contestant will receive an email confirming their participation and containing an address to which mead should be send.

§10b

Only applicable for meads entered in PRO competition After a fee has been received, a contestant will receive an email confirming their participation and containing an address to which mead should be send.

§11a

Only applicable for meads entered in HOME competition Meads need to be sent until 31.10.2019 in number of minimum two bottles (0.33l or more each). To each bottle, a correctly filled label needs to be attached, by using elastic band only. Labels can be downloaded from www.meadmadnesscupkingsofmead.com website or by clicking here and should be clearly filled in. Meads received after 31.10.2019 will not be taking part in competition.

§11b

Only applicable for meads entered in PRO competition Meads need to be sent until 30.09.2019 in number of minimum two bottles (0.33l or more each). Mead need to be in the original packaging, the same as available for sale. To each bottle, a correctly filled label needs to be attached, by using elastic band only. Labels can be downloaded from www.meadmadnesscupkingsofmead.com website or by clicking here and should be clearly filled in. Meads received after 30.09.2019 will not be taking part in competition and an entry fee will not be refunded.

§12

Should organisers receive more than 10 meads in one sub category, an elimination round will be held after which no more than 10 meads will be selected to participate in the final round.

§13

Meads will be evaluated by experienced mead, wine and bear judges and people associated with mead industry from Poland and abroad. Judges are forbidden to evaluate their own mead that has been submitted to the Competition. Marcin Jaros is the Mead Madness Cup HOME 2019 head judge and Mateusz Blaszczyk is Mead Madness Cup PRO 2019 head judge.

§14

Three best meads in each category and sub category will be announced publicly on www.meadmadnesscupkingsofmead.com and other media.

§15

Each of the category winning Meads will be subjected to an extra degustation and an open debate and voting by MMC 2019 jury, after which one mead will receive an MMC HOME 2019 GRAND CHAMPION title and MMC PRO 2019 GRAND CHAMPION title.

§16

Mead makers participating in Mead Madness Cup 2019 consent to their details (name, surname, name of the company) and meads details being used in competition information materials, materials supplied by sponsors of the event and prizes and to promote MMC 2019 by the organisers.

§17

The Organisers reserve the right to modify the Terms & Conditions in the event of significant and unforeseen external circumstances.
